I don’t sell hardware to my clients. I advise MacMaven clients on what to buy, where to buy it from, and the price they should pay. Unless your Mac consultant is an authorized Apple dealer, I strongly advise not to buy Macs from him or her.
A Mac consultancy that I won’t name (and is apparently out of business) has some negative Yelp reviews. According to the reviews, some of her clients had purchased Macs from her that she allegedly never delivered. While this is an extreme, unfortunate case, there are two concrete reasons why you shouldn’t buy Macs from your consultant.
First, your consultant is almost certainly charging a markup on the Mac. There is nothing difficult about buying a Mac from Apple or an authorized reseller. Why pay more to use a middleman without any appreciable benefit?
Second, when it comes to warranty service, the sales receipt will have your consultant’s name on it, not yours. Unless you’re planning on relinquishing your Mac to your consultant when you need warranty service, you’re opening up a Pandora’s box with Apple.
