The current M1 Macs are stopgap notebooks until the real stars of the show are released later this year. All rumors are pointing to completely redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. They will likely have newer, more powerful processors than the M1. Likewise, we can expect completely redesigned iMacs, without the thick screen borders and the “chin” found in the current models. The new iMacs will bring us desktop-class Apple Silicon, presumably with screaming performance.
For established clients, MacMaven Consulting provides gratis purchasing advice for personal-use Macs. I always recommend buying a Mac with more horsepower and storage than a client needs today, because they will inevitably grow into it. Our clients that follow our advice purchase Macs that have long and productive lifespans. Unfortunately, some of our clients don’t consult with us and buy underpowered machines with small drives. This saves them a few hundred dollars at purchase time, however it often winds up costing these clients significantly more in the long term.
